One of the main reasons that has caused\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>significant\u00a0<\/span>reduction<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0the number of these\u00a0<\/span>pickers<\/span>\u00a0is the inadequate\u00a0<\/span>compensation<\/span>. In fact, the new generations prefer to move to urban areas in search of permanent<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0full-time jobs that can offer<\/span>\u00a0them<\/span>\u00a0a higher<\/span>\u00a0salary<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Israeli start-up\u00a0<\/span>Tevel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Aerbotics<\/span>\u00a0Technologies, founded by a team of experts\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0the aerospace and electronics industr<\/span>y<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>has\u00a0<\/span>create<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0an innovative devic<\/span>e in order to\u00a0<\/span>support and meet the needs of farmers. The new smart product is called Flying Autonomous Robot (FAR) and is a drone able\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0identif<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>pick fruits<\/span>\u00a0thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFarmers are struggling today with recruiting fruit pickers, a situation that puts the whole industry at risk<\/span>” said Yaniv\u00a0<\/span>Maor<\/span>, founder and CEO of\u00a0<\/span>Tevel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Aerobotics<\/span>\u00a0Technologies. \u201c<\/span>The situation in orchards is worse than in greenhouses, for a few reasons. Fruit season in the orchard is shorter than for greenhouses and orchards are mostly located in remote villages where the local labour is not available, and the imported labour is not sufficient<\/span>\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Tevel<\/span>\u00a0platform is equipped with six drones connected to each other and<\/span>\u00a0that<\/span>\u00a0are constantly controlled by the artificial intelligence of an autonomous brain. FARs only\u00a0<\/span>pick<\/span>\u00a0ripe fruits, which can be classified according to\u00a0<\/span>their\u00a0<\/span>size and ripen<\/span>ess<\/span>, and then deposit them in the<\/span>\u00a0proper<\/span>\u00a0boxes without damaging them, also thanks to their “prehensile arms” and eyes powered by artificial intelligence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The robots can work 24 hours a day and with the support of the app,\u00a0<\/span>farm<\/span>ers are regularly updated on the amount of fruit harvested and on the estimated time needed to finish the harvest. “<\/span>Our Innovation is designed to complement existing fruit pickers and not merely to substitute them<\/span>” said the company. \u201c<\/span>Tevel<\/span>\u00a0supplies autonomous harvesting on demand \u2013 anytime, anywhere, any capacity. Our flying robots gently pick the fruit without bruising it [and] they almost don\u2019t leave any fruit on the trees<\/span>“.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The combination of algorithms, artificial intelligence and data analysis makes FARs efficient and effective devices. The detection of<\/span>\u00a0foliage and<\/span>\u00a0fruit and the classification of the<\/span>ir<\/span>\u00a0size and ripen<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>state\u00a0<\/span>are made possible thanks to the vision algorithms. In addition, the\u00a0<\/span>manoeuvre<\/span>\u00a0algorithms allow the drones to travel an optimal trajectory, while with the balancing algorithms the robots can adjust the force used. Finally, the recorded orchard data is sent to other algorithms able to optimize the harvest and better manage the fleet of drones.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The start-up\u00a0<\/span>Tevel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Aerbotics<\/span>\u00a0Technologies, thanks to the latest\u00a0<\/span>funding of<\/span>\u00a020 million dollars, will be able to complete the testing of the new device, start\u00a0<\/span>its\u00a0<\/span>production and commercialize the product which, according to\u00a0<\/span>the company<\/span>, will be available on the market by the end of 2021<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
